Weber Holdings and Aparium Hotel Group breathe life into La Crosse’s newest, old gem where a local’s destination becomes a traveler’s dream

(CHICAGO; August 25, 2015)— Chicago-based Aparium Hotel Group and owner Weber Holdings proudly announce the opening of The Charmant Hotel (101 State Street, La Crosse, WI), a 67-room upscale independent property, where guests will be welcomed beginning on Tuesday, September 15, 2015.  The groundbreaking restoration of the iconic 1898 Joseph B. Funke Candy Company, led by Simeone Deary Design Group and The Kubala Washatko Architects, Inc., began in October 2014 with the goal of refurbishing and resurrecting one of the most prominent and historically significant landmarks in the heart of downtown La Crosse.
“This was an opportunity for us to create a natural extension of our community and commemorate the city of La Crosse for all it has provided our locals,” The Charmant Hotel Owner Don Weber says. “Our goal was to bring life back to this historical building, which we hope will create community growth with upscale dining options and hospitality careers.”
"We are proud to work alongside such passionate owners as well as a talented team that has restored this historical asset in La Crosse,” Aparium Hotel Group COO Kevin Robinson says.  "After visiting the town over the past three years, we are confident that our ‘Trans-local’ approach, where great hotels are a destination sought out by travelers and a favorite place for locals, will create an exciting place for the local market to enjoy for generations."
As part of the opening celebration, and in commemoration of its candy company history, the hotel will give away five “Golden Tickets” for visitors to receive a complimentary stay. Throughout the first week of business, five guests dining at the restaurant, can unroll their silverware and be surprised with a golden ticket redeemable for a one-of-a-kind Charmant Hotel experience.
Located alongside the Mississippi River in La Crosse, Wisconsin, the hotel boasts five stories comprised of 67 chic guestrooms, including four top-floor suites that provide guests with a wrap-around outdoor balcony featuring views of the Mississippi river and downtown La Crosse. In collaboration with owner Weber Holdings, Aparium Hotel Group is leading the programming, positioning, and ongoing management of the new hotel project. The joint venture led the $30 million dollar renovation and restoration and enlisted The Kubala Washatko Architects, Inc. and Simeone Deary Design Group to transform the historic 19th century building into a locally-curated destination for visitors and locals alike, while paying a nod to its original “golden era” charm through deliberate design, food and beverage offerings, and in-room amenities.
The ground floor invites hotel visitors and locals to enjoy multiple food and beverage offerings including: a market-driven restaurant with rustic French influence; cocktail bar and lounge; and coffee and dessert parlour featuring a wood burning fire place. Cruise into the sunset on the Niagara Belle

Niagara Sunset Cruises offers wine and dine experience on the Niagara River

NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, ONT. (JUNE 2015) – A new Niagara boat tour allows passengers to soak up the beauty and history of the stunning Niagara River from the decks of a fully restored New Orleans-style paddle wheeler.

The Niagara Belle, which previously operated as a cruise boat in Toronto Harbour on Lake Ontario and in the Upper Niagara River, has been given a new lease on life by Niagara Sunset Cruises, a sister company to Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Niagara Sunset Cruises bought the boat in 2013 and gave it a complete overhaul, including more than $1 million in renovations.

After running private charter trips last summer, the Niagara Belle is offering cruises for the general public for the first time ever this season. Departures are available to passengers on both sides of the Niagara River from docks in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont. and Lewiston, N.Y. Dinner cruises depart from both the Canadian and American docks, while lunch, wine tasting and a special Sunday Captain’s Cruise are offered from the Canadian side only.

“The Niagara Belle offers a unique opportunity to take in the beautiful scenery along the Niagara River like Fort Niagara, Fort George, General Brock's Monument and the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge,” says John Kinney, President of Niagara Sunset Cruises and Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours. “Whether it’s a dinner or wine tasting cruise, guests will get to taste and experience some of Niagara’s best offerings in one excursion.”

The Niagara Belle takes visitors on a leisurely cruise down the Lower Niagara River, through Queenston and Niagara-on-the-Lake, to the mouth of Lake Ontario. The ship can accommodate up to 80 people for a seated dinner and about 140 for cocktail cruises.

Niagara-on-the-Lake departures include:

·         Dinner Cruise – Watch the sunset over Lake Ontario on a three-hour cruise that includes a buffet-style dinner prepared by the award winning culinary team, followed by post-dinner dancing to the professional sound system.

·         Lunch Cruise – Spend a relaxing afternoon on a two-hour sail of the Niagara River that includes a delicious buffet-style lunch.

·         Sunday Captain’s Cruise – Enjoy a two-hour afternoon ride featuring a unique surf and turf lunch of Beef Tenderloin and Lobster Tail available only on Sundays.

·         Wine Tasting Cruise – Sample some of the finest VQA wines, from rich reds to robust whites and world-famous ice wines, made on the shores of the Niagara River in the heart of Ontario’s wine country. This 90-minute cruise includes a wine tasting flight paired with a complimentary bar snack.

Lewiston, NY departures include:

·         Dinner Cruise – Enjoy the three spacious decks and take in the sunset and sites along the Niagara River as you enjoy a buffet-style dinner prepared fresh by Waterstreet Landing.

Along with public cruises, Niagara Sunset Cruises also offers private and corporate charters on the Niagara Belle in Canada and the U.S., which can be booked in advance for events such as birthday parties, banquets, fundraisers, team-building retreats or VIP events.

Thrill-seekers can also try the Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours, which provides the exhilaration of getting soaked by Class 5 whitewater while speeding along the Niagara River in custom-built jet boats.

·         Dining Choices: Viking’s ships offer multiple restaurant locations and food choices—from The Restaurant and the World Café, serving a variety of global cuisines and regional specialties and Mamsen’s, which serves Norwegian deli-style fare—to intimate dining experiences at The Chef’s Table, Manfredi’s Italian Restaurant and The Kitchen Table, all serving meals prepared with fresh, local ingredients. Furthermore, with multiple choices for outdoor seating during meals, Viking’s ocean ships offer more al fresco dining than any other ships.

About the James Beard Foundation (JBF)

Founded in 1986, the James Beard Foundation celebrates, nurtures, and honors America's diverse culinary heritage through programs that educate and inspire. A cookbook author and teacher with an encyclopedic knowledge about food, James Beard, who died in 1985, was a champion of American cuisine. He helped educate and mentor generations of professional chefs and food enthusiasts, instilling in them the value of wholesome, healthful, and delicious food. Today JBF continues in the same spirit by administering a number of diverse programs that include educational initiatives, food industry awards, scholarships for culinary students, publications, chef advocacy training, and thought-leader convening. The Foundation also maintains the historic James Beard House in New York City’s Greenwich Village as a “performance space” for visiting chefs. In September of 2012, JBF launched the Diplomatic Culinary Partnership with the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Protocol and helped create the American Chef Corps as a way to champion American chefs abroad, promote American food products, and foster an interest in American culinary culture and history through international programs and initiatives. One such project is the next world’s fair, Expo Milano 2015, for which the James Beard Foundation is co-leading the effort for the State Department to design and produce the USA Pavilion, a global gathering of 147 countries addressing the challenges of how we will feed ourselves in the future. The pavilion, whose theme will be “American Food 2.0: United to Feed the Planet,” will showcase America’s contributions to global food security and gastronomy. Chuan Spa & Fitness Club

The Chuan Spa values are based upon the principles of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), yin and yang, the meridian system (jing luo) and the five elements (wu xing – wood, fire, earth, metal and water,) all of which place a strong emphasis on rebalancing the elements and providing a journey into wellness. Chuan Spa has exclusively developed over 20 signature treatments with the guidance of the in-house TCM doctor to ensure the highest levels of authenticity and conceptual integrity. To compliment these services, a comprehensive Chuan branded retail and professional spa product range was created, which included the 5 Element Massage Oils and Essential Oils.  As the spa brand of Langham Hospitality Group, the first Chuan Spa was opened in 2005 at Langham Place, Hong Kong; other locations around the world include The Langham hotels in Auckland, Boston, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, Melbourne, Ningbo, Shanghai and Shenzhen.  For more information, visit
